OldSchoolLive.com

It all started around 1998 with DJunEq.com. The site consisted of 4 radio stations: "Classic Hip Hop Radio", "Baltimore Club", "Reggae Dancehall", and "Classic House Mixes". This is back in the day when Live365.com was COMPLETE FREE for broadcasters! (Does anyone even remember that?)

After about 2 years, live365.com started charging for service - raising rates every year, so the reggae, club, and house streams had to be dropped.

As the hip hop stream gained popularity, I wanted a whole new site dedicated to old school hip hop........ Finally, OldSchoolLive.com was born on 10/31/2000.

OldSchoolLive.com mostly played tracks from 1978-1998... Occasionally there would be newer tracks from old school artists thrown in the mix as well.

And one thing that separated this station from the other old school hip hop stations is the live request thing... All a listener would have to do is click on a song, and it would automatically cue up.

Screenshots of the Past: - wow... some of these are really BAD lol... But it's cool to see how better the design got over time :)

OldSchoolLive.com v1 -- The birth - October 31st, 2000... Damn, newborns are ugly sometimes! :) For some reason, I made it to where you would have to log in to get to the site, and I quickly dropped that in version 3.

OldSchoolLive.com v2 -- Whew.. still looking rough.. But I actually had some Macromedia Flash action up at the top. The top part was animated the whole time you would be surfing the site. But that would be the only time that I would mess with Flash programming - at least for OldSchoolLive... Also, I had accidently let the OldSchoolLive.com domain name expire too. Luckily I was able to get it back late October, 2001. Version 2 went up around the same time. Variations of this site would stay around until Late 2003.

OldSchoolLive.com v3 -- Version 3 was my attempt at making oldschoollive.com look totaly different. It would only last 3 months though. I got sick of it quick.

OldSchoolLive.com v4 -- This version went live near the end of January, 2004. This one was the first site that I thought was prety cool.. I even had it "skinnable" where users could customize oldschoollive.com with their favorite skin. The default skin was the Blue one with the city in the background. Here's a couple examples of some of the other skins: Skin 2, Skin 3 Skin 4, Skin 5

OldSchoolLive.com v5 -- Version 5 didn't last too long.. Maybe 6 months or so.. I was just going for yet another different look.

OldSchoolLive.com v6 -- June 2005 - January 2007. This one lasted for about a year and a half, and I finally I got sick of it... But this is where oldschoollive.com started to really come together as a decent website. The message board was fully incorporated, and the request feature was part of the website.. In version 5, it was a pop up window that barely resembled the site. Also, the graffiti board was well liked by users, so it was kept in version 7. Here's a screenshot of the intro screen for version 6.

OldSchoolLive.com has discontinued the radio stream for now due to lack of donations and the ever changing royalty rates and monthly costs to keep the station alive. And the future is anyone's guess.

For now, there are plans to get old school hip hop mixes on here for sale. If you would like to be notified when this goes down, make sure you are a member of the O.S.L. Community. An email will be sent out to all members when this happens.

It's possible that the radio stream will return one day as well. But I really have to relax my wallet for a little while first. I will definately keep all of my members posted if I decide to bring it back.
